The New Rehearsal Schedule

1/28/2014

I have added 3 rehearsals to our schedule to replace the 3 we missed because of cold weather.
I understand that your child may not be able to attend some of these new rehearsals, and that's okay.  Your child should attend the rehearsals he/she is called for whenever possible.

Picture
I have divided the characters into groups, and have assigned each group a letter of the alphabet for scheduling purposes.  That information is listed below.  I then used those letters to list who should come for rehearsals through Feb. 6.  Students can see a more complete rehearsal schedule on the bulletin boards at school.  As always, Drama students are welcome to attend any rehearsals.

Character groups:
A – Whoover Academy Drama Club members
(Audrey, Fiona, Rachel, Kate, Eleanor, Katie, Maya, Lilly, Eva, Ryan, Stefano, Eden, Claire, Jayde)
B – Grunch and gang     (Annie H, Josie, Elliot)
C-  School personnel    (John, Anna O., Evelyn C.)
D – The NY Critics   (Mara, Hannah, Amara, Abigail, Ivy, Evelyn G.)
E – The MN Critics   (Julian, Sami, Charlie)
F – Las estrellitas
(Dayanara, Anna McCallon, Abby E., Fredonia, Mel, Leila, Mackenzie, Mathea,
Anna H., Anna McCarthy, Lilia, Arylin)
G – Critics Chorus & Conductor
(Casey, Emily C., Megan, Bella, Elena, Elie, Chloe, Olivia Krueger, Ella, Isabella, and Sophia)
H – Ticket Seller   (Winnie)
I -  Taxistas  (Bianca, Georgia)
J – Paparazzi & Reporters  (Alenea, Marit, Marley, Olivia Krebs)

A few more things:
Starting next Monday, rehearsals end at 5:00.

I'll post costume details next week.

Students should be "off-book" (have their lines memorized) by Mon., Feb. 10.

                            Set-Day Saturday #1
Many thanks to all of you who helped on Saturday.  The set and prop list is rather short this year, and we were able to complete nearly everything!  Instead of a work day this Saturday, we will have two rehearsals (see the calendar above).  I'll need a couple of parents to help with supervision that morning.

Some of the x-actos knives were switched on Saturday.  Someone left a yellow one, and someone accidentally took a gray one with a yellow cord, and possibly another one went missing.  Please check your tool boxes, and we can get them all back to their owners.

On Friday after school, I will be finishing the locker background if anyone is interested in helping with some simple painting and stamping.

For those of you who helped on Saturday:  If you would like your name to appear on one of the lockers, simply send me a 3x5 inch-sized piece of paper or notecard decorated with your name.
I'll attach it to your very own locker, and you'll be part of the set!

Finally, a request or two...
If you happen to get any of the following publications, could we use a copy or two?
St. Paul Pioneer Press             The New York Times
The New Yorker                        Variety
New York Magazine
Backstage
New York Post

The show must go on...

So the cold weather has thrown a monkey wrench in the rehearsal schedule again!  At this point, I expect we will still perform on Feb., 19, 21, and 22.  In order to help the kids be ready, I will be adding some extra rehearsals.  As soon as I have the details finalized I will post that information here.

In the meantime, students should be going over their lines.

Just over three weeks to go!

Four weeks and counting....

1/20/2014

We had 2 productive rehearsals last week.  Because we are not able to rehearse the whole play in one rehearsal, we will be splitting the rehearsals for the next 2 weeks.  Check the schedule below (or the "Calendario" page) to see when your child is expected at Drama Club.

Thursday, Jan. 23  -  Scenes 8, 9, 10, 5, 6
    Whoover Drama Club members
Sra. Woods, Sr. Augustín, Sra. Cooper
    Estrellitas
    Grunch, Willie, Millie
    Paparazzi and Reporters

Monday, Jan. 27   - Scenes 4, 7, 11 (only pages 25-27)
    Critics (NY and MN)
Sr. Augustín, Sra. Cooper, Sra. Woods
    Taxistas
    Conductor and Ticket Seller
Las Estrellitas (to learn your songs)

Thursday, Jan. 30    - Scenes 1, 3, 5, 11 (pages 28-32, but not the Critics)
    Whoover Drama Club members
    Las Estrellitas
    Grunch, Willie, Millie
Sr. Augustín, Sra. Cooper, Sra. Woods

Please note that all Drama Club students are welcome to attend all rehearsals.

                                             Set Day Saturdays

Picture
It is time to start building the set and creating props for this year's show.  I think we will be able to complete our work on the following two Saturdays:

                          Saturday, January 25 ~ 8-11 a.m.
                          Saturday, February 1 ~ 8-11 a.m.

All Drama Club parents and students are welcome to join us.

Picture
Our main jobs this Saturday will include painting, cutting and assembling some cardboard set pieces, and creating some simple costume pieces.  Bring tools that will be helpful for such jobs!

Your help during these Saturdays makes our performances possible.                                                Thanks!

Happy New Year!

             Parent Volunteers Needed for Rehearsals
Rehearsals run more smoothly when there is another adult in the rehearsal space to supervise those students not rehearsing with me.  Rehearsal supervisors assist with homework, sometimes bring board games, and interact with students.  If you are interested in being a rehearsal supervisor, please let me know by e-mailing me at wieber.kim@slpschools.org.

              Saturday, January 25 ~ 8-11 a.m.
              Saturday, February 1 ~ 8-11 a.m.

All Drama Club parents and students are welcome to join us.

Your help during these Saturdays makes our performances possible. Thanks!
